Wistfulness and Wonder Comes to Cedar House Gallery

April 27th – May 3rd

A new exhibition, Hiraeth, by Taylor Martin & Courtney C. Trowman opens Wednesday April 27th at the Cedar House Gallery featuring about 50 new works of photography that will be on display through Tuesday May 3rd, with an opening reception Friday evening April 29th.

Hiraeth, (pronounced heer-eyeth) is a Welsh word that embodies the sense of longing for a home that never was or is gone; a deep bond with a time, era, place or person, and will take viewers on a photographic journey of wistfulness & wonder. Taylor and Courtney hope you can join them for the opening reception Friday April 29th from 6-9pm. There will be light fare, beer and wine out on the back patio, weather permitting. Cedar House Gallery is located at 122 E 36th St, Savannah, GA 31401.

Taylor and Courtney are a very creative couple, but this is their first venture together and Taylor’s first public showing.  Photography is the one creative outlet they equally share. Taylor’s artistic endeavors include pottery, drawing/painting, and woodworking. Courtney (aka CC Bella Collage) focuses on 2 & 3D pieces that consist of found, upcycled and recycled materials. She began showing her work in 2018 and has been on display at Sulfur Studios, RootsUp, Corkhouse Gallery, the JEA, Savannah Gallery of Art, Coffee.Deli, and Locally Made Savannah.

The show will feature classic photography as well as a few different techniques including cyanotype, long exposure, resin, and a process Courtney created she’s calling “Crinkle Carve.” There will also be varying types of displays like wood, metal and glass prints as well as a vintage chafing dish as a frame.

While their collaborative selections fell naturally within hiraeth’s definition, the theme also honors two individual anniversaries of deeply personal losses for each Taylor and Courtney, that both happen to fall within this viewing week. They would like to dedicate the show in memory of Taylor’s best friend, Barry Schaaf and Courtney’s mother, Amy Gerber.
