SAVANNAH STATION

  • Cedar House Gallery 122 E 36th Street GA United States (map)

Cedar House Gallery presents “Savannah Station”, a solo exhibition by artist Chenyi Sun. The exhibition shows the works of Chenyi in the past four years and shows into two parts. The first part includes the subway series, it is in a tour exhibition. Chenyi explores the experience of loneliness as it relates to the modern urban environment. Sun’s meticulously rendered subjects and environments are an examination into the phenomenon of isolation despite the increasing population in urban centers. The idea comes directly from his observations in crowds and the relationships between people and people in the high-pressure environment of a big city. The subway is emblematic of all aspects of the fast rhythm of the city. Loneliness is increased by the contrast between movement and quiescence. The subway reflects different spaces and adds crowding to the painting as a statement about the complexity of the city. The second part includes some figurative paintings.
