Artist statement

Food is one of my great interests. Food is a very important thing for us to live in this world, and itis a substance consumed to provide nutritional support to an organism. However, it has different meanings for me. During my thinking about food, I recall many stories about food. With food as the main thread, I was reminded of what had happened. Food is like a way for me to understand the world and keep track of time.

Food may be such a commonplace part of our daily lives that few people think about it in a humanistic way. My work is to re-examine this seemingly ordinary food. To make a new transformation of food in my way. Food is used to recall my past and record my present. I would like to use fiber art as a carrier to express food, because food is a kind of ephemeral thing, and fiber art can preserve it.

For me, the creation of art should be meaningful, and it should be close to life. Food is indispensable to our daily life. I am trying to explore its functions other than eating. This is also my expansion of the boundary of human cognition, which is a brand-new direction of thinking.

Abstract

There is an old saying in China that food is god. I got a lot of interesting results from my repeated thinking about food. I think this process is very important. Focusing on food, I first thought about the feeling it brings to human beings, which can be extended from three aspects: vision, taste and touch. For example, the taste sensations of food can be divided into sour, sweet, bitter, hot, salty, and each taste brings a unique and wonderful experience to people. Secondly, I think about the food culture, I put the research center on the Chinese food culture. In traditional Chinese culture, food serves not only the function of eating, but also a variety of metaphors. For example, Chinese people eat different foods in different festivals to express people's yearning for a better life. The river of thinking about food has been flowing, and I have opened the door to memory. Food is like a key to a memory box, and it keeps my mind flowing. We can see that there is an indelible relationship between food and memory. This is one of the biggest takeaways from my rethinking of food. These repeated reflections on food are a novel experience. I hope that this article and my artwork can arouse the audience to re-examine food in the same way. This is a new way of reading the familiar things in life.

I think art should come from the areas and aspects of life that the artist himself has a great feeling for. Since food and memory touch me a lot, I want to record them in the form of textile art. Let food and memory become the thesis of my art project. In my project, I try more transformations between food and textile, and use textile to translate my feelings and memories about food.

 

Poster copywriter

This is a new way of looking at food, connecting food to memory. I am a typical foodie, constantly chewing food with my mouth, but when I think of what food means to me, I find that each food brings back different memories—Dumplings being the most influential. In the process of making, tasting and inheriting dumplings, it bonds families together which forms the strong Chinese family concept. Therefore, I want to give the audience the experience of making and eating dumplings in the exhibition, as well as create a special and profound memory about food while experiencing Chinese culture.
