Cedar House Gallery presents “The Rest is All Drag”, a solo exhibition by artist resident Shaye Garrigan. The exhibition shows the sculptural works of Shaye created during the October residency, her two years in the making photographic series, and to top of the night sprinkled performances by the House of Gunt. In the residency work, Shaye discusses American beauty standards and society's shift in no longer feeling the need to adhere to them. A mannequin head serves as an oxymoron. It is a blank canvas for a new beauty regimen that allows the user full creative expression. Simultaneously, an ideal face is already there that the user has to mold their image into.
Shaye H. Garrigan is a multidisciplinary artist that focuses mainly in the photographic medium, graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design. Across the genres of work Shaye shows great admiration for her subjects. Most of her work is a deliberate collaboration between her and the subject. She believes the most rewarding experiences are those that are shared. Her work has shown in New York, Milan, Arles, as well as Harper’s Bazaar China.
